What this salary calculator does

This tool converts between hourly, weekly, biweekly, monthly and annual pay. You type one figure and the others update. The default is 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year. That gives a standard full-time year of 2,080 hours. The 2,080-hour year comes from 40 hours times 52 weeks. If you work part time, change the hours per week. If you work fewer than 52 weeks, change the weeks per year. The maths follows your inputs.

Monthly pay is the annual figure divided by 12. It is not a biweekly paycheck times 2. There are 26 biweekly paychecks in a year. So two months a year have three paychecks. That is why a monthly salary and two biweekly checks do not match. The calculator uses annual divided by 12 for monthly.

All results are gross pay. Gross pay is money before taxes and deductions. Your take-home pay is lower. For an estimate of net pay, use the paycheck calculator. Your employer's payroll is the record.

How the conversions work

Every figure starts from the annual salary. The calculator turns your input into an annual amount, then divides it. Here are the steps:

For a 40-hour week and 52-week year, the annual hours are 2,080. So an hourly rate of $20 gives $20 times 2,080, which is $41,600 a year. A weekly figure of $800 gives $800 times 52, which is $41,600. A biweekly figure of $1,600 gives $1,600 times 26, which is $41,600. A monthly figure of $3,466.67 gives about $41,600 a year. The calculator does these steps for you.

Part-time hours change the annual hours. If you work 20 hours per week for 52 weeks, the annual hours are 1,040. An hourly rate of $20 then gives $20 times 1,040, which is $20,800 a year. Unpaid weeks also change the result. If you work 40 hours per week but only 48 weeks a year, the annual hours are 1,920. The same $20 rate gives $38,400 a year. The calculator uses the weeks per year you enter.

Worked example

Suppose you earn $20 an hour and work 40 hours per week for 52 weeks. The annual pay is $20 times 40 times 52, which is $41,600. The monthly pay is $41,600 divided by 12, which is $3,466.67. The biweekly pay is $41,600 divided by 26, which is $1,600. The weekly pay is $41,600 divided by 52, which is $800. The daily pay for an 8-hour day is $160.

Now suppose you earn $52,000 a year and work 40 hours per week for 52 weeks. The hourly rate is $52,000 divided by 2,080, which is $25.00. The weekly pay is $52,000 divided by 52, which is $1,000. The biweekly pay is $52,000 divided by 26, which is $2,000. The monthly pay is $52,000 divided by 12, which is $4,333.33.

These are gross figures. They do not include overtime, bonuses, or unpaid time off. If you work overtime, use the overtime calculator. For a raise, use the pay raise calculator.

What can change your real pay

The calculator assumes a steady schedule. Real pay can differ for several reasons:

For net pay, use the paycheck calculator. It estimates federal tax, Social Security, and Medicare for 2026. State and local taxes vary. Check your state's rules.

If you are paid by the hour, keep track of your time. The hours calculator and time card calculator can help. For decimal hours, use the decimal hours calculator. For PTO, use the PTO accrual calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you work each year. For a full-time job, that is 40 hours times 52 weeks, or 2,080 hours. So $20 an hour gives $41,600 a year. The calculator does this for you.

Why is monthly pay different from two biweekly paychecks?

There are 26 biweekly paychecks in a year, not 24. So two months have three paychecks. Monthly pay is the annual salary divided by 12. That is why a monthly figure and two biweekly checks do not match. The calculator uses annual divided by 12.

What is the 2,080-hour year?

It is 40 hours per week times 52 weeks. Many full-time jobs use it to convert between hourly and annual pay. If you work part time or take unpaid weeks off, your annual hours are lower. Change the hours per week or weeks per year in the calculator.

Does this calculator show my take-home pay?

No. It shows gross pay, which is before taxes and deductions. Your net pay is lower. For an estimate of net pay, use the paycheck calculator. Your employer's payroll is the record. State and local taxes vary, so check your state's rules.
